Grants Available! Early Career Professional Scholarships and Travel Grants

Congratulations to our 5 Early Career Professional Annual Meeting attendance scholarship awardees! All are members of TWS Western Section and are striving to obtain permanent full-time employment in the wildlife profession.

Pamela Rueda-Cediel has a recent PhD from UC Riverside. She wants to improve conservation by applying her research in quantitative ecology to make effective tools for land managers and wildlife biologists that are easy to use and implement. Contact Pamela at prued001@ucr.edu.

Alyssa Semerdjian has a B.S. in Field/Wildlife Biology from CalPoly San Luis Obispo. She has worked in a variety of seasonal positions, has been crew leader, and volunteers at the San Diego Natural History Museum. She is interested in graduate school and research opportunities. Nicole Beadle has a recent Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology degree from UC Davis. She has completed internships with the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory and presently works as a temporary intern for the East Bay Regional Parks District. She is presenting a poster at the Annual Meeting and has contributed to EBRPD research that will be presented in two talks. She would enjoy working at a public agency. Phillip Hitchcock has a BS in Biology from San Diego State University. He has worked as a field biologist trainee, and volunteers at the Lindsay Wildlife Museum. Contact Phillip at phitchco@gmail.com.

Roxana Coreas has a recent BS in Environmental Health with a minor in Chemistry from CSU Northridge. She is a temporary intern for the Student Conservation Association and has worked as a GIS assistant. She seeks to apply her GIS skills to track wildlife and restore ecologies. Early Career Professional Scholarships are available to attend the 2016 Annual Meeting in Pomona, CA. Five scholarships valued at $500 each are available for Western Section members who have a relevant Bachelor’s Degree but are unemployed, underemployed, or employed outside of the wildlife profession. We know it’s hard to land that permanent full-time position, and we want to help you advance your career by joining us and the rest of your colleagues at the 2016 Annual Meeting! Registration, the Welcome Reception, the Student Professional Lunch (good networking for all of us!), and one Breakfast Roundtable are included in the scholarship. You have the freedom to use the remaining scholarship value to cover the costs that fit your needs, whether its travel, lodging, or attending other fee-based Annual Meeting events.  Apply by December 6th.  Results will be announced on December 14th.   Link to application
